An assessment of the transient effect on rotor stability and power demand

The analysis object is a main rotor of a helicopter equipped with variable geometry twist blades. The idea of changing twist is based on actuator systems made of shape memory alloys. The aim of the numerical analysis is to evaluate the dynamics of the rotor in the transient states, i.e. in the period between the static phase and the full activation phase, as well as the effect of changing the amplitude of the power required by the rotor, adequate to the flight state, on the pulsation, and thus covering the demand by the available power generated by the engine. In this work, a methodology based on numerical analysis using Multi Body Dynamics and Finite Element Method was applied.
