Determination of the effect of adding Biodiesel produced from fish frying oil to diesel fuel on the parameters of type “B” fuels

As part of the research, FME Biodiesel was produced from fish frying oil and, additionally, RME Biodiesel was produced from rapeseed oil for comparison. The biofuels were produced using our own design of the GW/Sw 300 reactor and using our own technology developed by one of the co-authors of the publication. The amount of substrates was selected from the transesterification process model. RME Biodiesels and B0 diesel fuel were used as reference fuels during the research. Selected parameters of FME and RME fuels of B100 type were determined. Then, B10, B30, B50 fuels (v/v) were composed. The following parameters were determined within the framework: combustion heat and calorific value, flash point, fractional composition, kinematic viscosity, dynamic viscosity as a function of temperature, density. Additionally, the iodine number and acid number were determined for FME and RME Biodiesels. Diesel fuel was characterized by higher values of combustion heat and calorific value than both Biodiesels, as expected. Among the biofuels, Biodiesel RME was characterized by a slightly higher value of both parameters. The initial distillation temperature of B0 diesel oil was lower by about 91oC than Biodiesel RME and by 97oC. All fuels evaporated to 360oC, with Biodiesel RME to 352oC and Biodiesel FME to 356oC. Diesel oil evaporated to a temperature of 343oC. The kinematic and dynamic viscosity of both Biodiesels was comparable and higher than the viscosity of diesel oil. The density of Biodiesel FME was slightly lower than that of Biodiesel RME.
