Aggregate indicator of engine oil degradation based on physico-chemical parameters

The article presents a method for determining an aggregated oil degradation index. Index as a surrogate indicator of the state of changes in physicochemical parameters of engine oil during its operation. The index is based on data from laboratory analysis of engine oil collected at regular intervals from ultralight gyroplanes operating in a flight school. To determine the degree of oil degradation, an index was proposed that takes into account 9 of the 35 parameters tested. The parameters were selected in such a way that the following conditions were met: a standard laboratory test includes a definition of a given parameter; the parameter has monotonic variability, which is related to the increase in total flight time or flight time since oil change. The article shows that the proposed parameter shows a noticeable correlation with the oil service life between changes in the period of 4 subsequent changes for two aircraft.
