Analysis of the Exhaust Emissions of a Plug-In Hybrid Vehicle Depending on the Battery State of Charge

The proper use of plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEV) by owners in accordance with their intended purpose continues to generate considerable debate. There are more and more voices being raised, also among EU officials, about the sense of using this type of drive in cars. Improper use of this type of car by customers, and at the same time very low emission values of these cars in currently conducted driving tests, resulted in tightening emission standards for this group of cars from 1 January 2026. The article presents the results of exhaust emission tests of a modern plug-in hybrid car at different levels of battery charge and with a "cold" start in relation to the emission results for tests conducted according to the currently applicable regulations. The obtained results do not clearly indicate that the use of a modern PHEV car, even with a significant battery discharge, causes a significant increase in the exhaust emission.
